Majestic Cathedral (a poem)

Manila Cathedral, well known basilica
Also named before as The Church of Manila
Fathered by a priest naming Juan de Vivero
Extending Christianity to Filipinos

It is the eighth cathedral built in the country
After the Filipinos lived depressingly
The floors of which touching few pairs of feet of popes
And contains arts by Filipino artists

This is the majestic Manila Cathedral
Soaring high to praise God like an eagle!
This is truly a wonderful piece
Making the country in a state of peace!

Greek, Roman and Filipino Influences Found in the Manila Cathedral

The present architecture was designed by Fernando Ocampo, featuring a Neoclassic Romanesque facade.

The columns are of Corinthian style, which originated from the Greeks.

The sculptures found outside, near the main entrance, are made out of Roman travertine stone.

The church features a Latin text. Translated in English it means "To thee in thy heart, oh Immaculate, entrust and consecrate from us."

A part of the church also has a dome, which began during the Roman Architectural Revolution. The one that has been seen in the Pantheon of the Romans.

The architect of the Manila Cathedral was a Filipino named Fernando Ocampo. He is known to be a
church painter.

The stained glass windows located inside were made by another Filipino, Galo Ocampo. He is also a veteran in the arts.

Manila Cathedral Through the Years

This is the 1920s look of the Manila Cathedral. It only occupied a small space comparing to the one today. The church continued to increase in space as time flew by. It is located in Manila, Philippines near the famous tourist spot, Intamuros.

The is the 1879 Manila Cathedral. It is the 7th structure and how it looked liked before the 2nd earthquake encounter.

This image was the 1880 Manila Cathedral. The bell tower destroyed due to the Luzon earthquake.

The picture on the left shows the interior fixation of the cathedral. It dates back last 2012. It was headed by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.
This is how the church looks like now. From the renovation last 2012, it once again opened last April 9, 2014. The cathedral was brought to life once more.
